Hawaii 5-0 Wisdom
Here in Las Vegas, one of my local tv stations runs the great police drama, Hawaii 5-0. GREAT SHOW! If tv were more like this, I would watch more!
So I was checking out the rapidly fading YouTube for some cool 5-0 stuff, and came upon this great clip. In it, McGarrett gives a strong verbal reprimand to a handful of obnoxious, naive hippies!
Thanks, McGarrett – I couldn’t have said it better myself!

Wow! It’s great to here the stern but paternal voice of reason on a college campus. Needless to say, such an event could only happen in the world of make-believe. McGarrett is still a hero for our times. And his groovy noodlings on the guitar show he’s no old fogey. I was almost as moved as when I first heard Mr. Spock on harp in "The Way to Eden"!!
JayTee,
McGarrett indeed still is a hero for our times! I really like how the hippie’s naive world view is authentic and true to life. They don’t have to be bothered by actual reasoning, or marking differences in conduct. All that’s important is that both the lawful and lawless both have guns. No thinking necessary. I can see how such a simple world view would appeal to simple minded people, which is why that type of thinking is so common these days!
And yes, seeing that personal side of McGarrett is a rare treat! Right On!!!
Vinnie, great clip! McGarrett’s explanation is as relevant today as it was when this was taped. It should be played out on the news for all the bleeding-heart liberals in this country. Maybe FOX will air it?!?!?!?
Thelma,
Yes, McGarrett’s comments are fresh and topical even today, about 3 decades after they were filmed! I hope someone airs these comments – they would set a lot of people straight!
Hey, you ought to send them to Savage! Though it would be better to send them to someone who has a tv show. However, it would defeat the purpose of educating the ignorant if it’s aired on a conservative show, as it would not reach the Ding-dongs who need to be reached. (sigh) :-\
Thelma,
I should pass it along to the wise Dr Savage! He would probably say that McGarrett was soft on the hippies!
The sad thing is that the kind of simple-minded analysis of the hippies is all to common in our era, too – three decades later, and you can always count on wide-eyed, simple minded people trying to get the world to match their world view, rather than deriving a world view by intelligently evaluating the real world.
EXCELSIOR!
It’s great TV honestly, and suprelative to dream about what we would like the world to be like but the reality is a bit….well, unreal. I do remember vividly a time when Jack Lord’s lines and many others gave us all hope for the world and its peoples but I’ve lived long and into the year 2007 and my hope fades more all the time. When we cannot have a peaceful conversation and or discussion with our own ilk, and with our opposites, we can’t hope too much for goodness to happen over evil. I’ve likley stayed up too long tonight to cause me to be so negative and possibly you here, can set me upright and change my mind. I like it that at my ripe old-age that I can still enjoy learning and change my mind.
NWVeryBerry,
Remember, words from great men like Jack Lord and Jack Webb still inspire people to this day! There is a lot of negative, but I like to concentrate on the positive! Keep ‘em flying!
Vinnie Vegas, I need to back up here a tad and correct mself when I wrote about opposites and our Ilk speaking and discussing things properly. What I want to correct is that I meant to state we Americans, not the terrorists and those who we care not to, dare not, try to relate to.
Indeed I know how ultra positive you are and that’s one of your greatest wonderful attributes. When I grow up I wish to be just like you (and not so very long ago I was. Possibly you will assist to bring me around to my OlD self again.
Danke Vinnie!
NWVeryBerry, Every day YOU write the next page of the story of your life! You can make the chapter a good one, or not. While many circumstances are beyond our control, many other circumstances are in our control!
So write some positive chapters! ;-)
