Thank God, it’s Reverend Manning!

I’m a big fan of Reverend Manning and his ATLAH ministry in my old hometown of New York City.

Here comes the holy man himself to help young Bristol Palin with some PRAYER POWER!

Angry Red Planet

“Sculpted by Martian winds,” huh?

This neat news story caught my eye, and the natural skeptic in me just has a hard time beleiving in those Martian winds!

‘Alien’ sand dunes found on Mars

mars Angry Red Planet

To look at it you’d think the landscape had been carved by aliens.

But these perfectly sculpted sand dunes, resembling crabs’ claws, were sculpted by the martian winds.

The images were photographed by a powerful camera onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. They come from within the Hellspontus region of the planet, where powerful winds blow from west to east.

The MRO probe is equipped with the most powerful camera ever sent into space. It also took detailed pictures of Phobos, the larger of Mars’ two moons. Less than 14 miles wide, the asteroid is covered with craters and mysterious grooves.

Chief Nasa investigator Professor Alfred McEwen, of the University of Arizona, said: “Phobos is of great interest because it may be rich in water ice and carbon-rich materials.”

Here’s to the inevitable photos of the Martian cities, which we will be told are tricks of light and shadow!

RIP Charlton Heston

One of the true greats passes away

Sad to report that one of my favorite actors and personalities of all time, Mr. Charlton Heston, passed away at his home this past Saturday, April 4. One of my greatest thrills was meeting Mr. Heston at a book signing in the late 1990s, promoted by The Learning Annex. Mr. Heston will be missed.

RIP Charlton Heston

The AP ran a nice obituary, so I decided to post most if it here:

Film legend Charlton Heston dead at 84

By BOB THOMAS, Associated Press WriterSun Apr 6, 2:30 PM ET

Charlton Heston, the Oscar winner who portrayed Moses and other heroic figures on film in the ’50s and ’60s and later championed conservative values as head of the National Rifle Association, has died. He was 84.

The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said. He declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.

“Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played,” Heston’s family said in a statement.

Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer’s disease.

With his large, muscular build, well-boned face and sonorous voice, Heston proved the ideal star during the period when Hollywood was filling movie screens with panoramas depicting the religious and historical past.

“I have a face that belongs in another century,” he often remarked.

The actor assumed the role of leader offscreen as well. He served as president of the Screen Actors Guild and chairman of the American Film Institute and marched in the civil rights movement of the 1960s.

With age, he grew more conservative and campaigned for conservative candidates. In June 1998, Heston was elected president of the NRA, for which he had posed for ads holding a rifle.

Heston famously used to say that the only way his gun would be taken away is “from my cold, dead hands.”

Hillary Clinton’s Truth Problem

April 5th, 2008 4 comments

Keep in mind that almost everything Hillary says here is untrue

Hillary Clinton has had problems with the truth all along the campaign trail. Recently on the stump, she related a hospital/insurance horror story with quite a bit of passion and detail. Here it is…

Well, the big problem with her horror story (where characteristically both a woman and a child are victimized) is that it didn’t happen.

ABC News reports

Clinton Drops Another Tale From Stump Speech

Another Clinton Campaign Story Shot Down

By ELOISE HARPER

For the second time in recent days, Sen. Hillary Clinton has had to drop a story from her stump speech after being challenged on its accuracy.

For the past month, the New York senator liked to tell the tale of a pregnant woman who was denied health care from an Ohio hospital because she did not have $100 the hospital demanded to treat her. After being turned away, the woman was brought back to the hospital days later with severe complications. She had to be rushed to another facility for advanced treatment, but it was too late. Both the woman and the baby died, Clinton told her audiences.

For Clinton, the story was an example of how everyone should have universal healthcare. It is a powerful tale and always drew gasps from the audience.

The hospital, which was never named in Clinton’s speeches, objected this weekend, saying it wasn’t true and demanded that Clinton stop telling it.

The O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio, told the New York Times that the woman was insured and was never denied treatment.

The Clinton campaign told ABC News today that the candidate heard the story from a deputy sheriff and had no reason to doubt the story.

“If the hospital claims it didn’t happen that way, we certainly respect that and she won’t repeat the story,” said Clinton spokeswoman Mo Elleithee.

“Candidates are told stories by people all the time, and it’s common for candidates to retell those stories,” Elleithee said. “It’s not always possible to fully vet them, but we try. For example, medical records are confidential. In this case, we tried but weren’t able to fully vet the story.”

Elleithee said the point of the story is that the country has a health care problem. “That’s a point very few people will dispute,” she said. The senator’s credibility came under fire last week when she tried to burnish her credentials as a veteran of international hot spots and described dodging sniper fire upon arrival in Bosnia in 1996 when she was traveling as a First Lady.

She admitted she “misspoke” when a video emerged showing her getting off the helicopter and being greeted by a girl with flowers. Clinton later tried to make fun of the misstep by telling Jay Leno during an appearance earlier this week that she almost was late because she was pinned down by sniper fire at the Burbank airport.

Well, that makes me feel a lot better – they pretty much admit they shoot their mouths off half cocked, and there’s no claim that they ever even tried to verify the story.

Very shoddy. It’s really something that 1/2 of the democrat constituency is rooting for her. To be fair, it’s really something that the other 1/2 of the democrat constituency is rooting for that other guy.

Hillary Clinton’s New 3:00 AM Ad

April 3rd, 2008 7 comments

She sure has a strange fetish about late-night calls

Looks like Hillary Clinton is returning to the ad format that helped her whip Barry Obama in Texas and Ohio – a bunch of cute kids sleeping and a late-night call on the Batphone, demanding her expertise, wisdom, and sound judgment.

The last time, it was some unnamed world crisis that demanded a bespectacled Hillary’s attention. This time, evidently some great late-night financial crisis makes her spring into action.

This stuff is self parody, clearly. The ad makes no sense. I really have to wonder about the kind of mind that is moved by an advertisement like this.

John Kerry makes his case for Obama

Remember that Intellectual Presidential Candidate from 2004?

john kerry everyones retarded cousin John Kerry makes his case for Obama

Jake Tapper reports

Kerry: Obama Could Help US Relations with Muslim Nations ‘Because He’s a Black Man’

In an interview with Massachusetts’ SouthCoastToday, Obama-backing Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., says among other reasons he’s supporting Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is his belief that “it would be such an affirmation of who we say we are as a people. if we could elect an African-American president, young leader, who is obviously visionary about the ability to inspire people.”

Kerry said that a President Obama would help the US, in relations with Muslim countries, “in some cases go around their dictator leaders to the people and inspire the people in ways that we can’t otherwise.”

“He has the ability to help us bridge the divide of religious extremism,” Kerry said. “To maybe even give power to moderate Islam to be able to stand up against this radical misinterpretation of a legitimate religion.”

Kerry was asked what gives Obama that credibility.

“Because he’s African-American. Because he’s a black man. Who has come from a place of oppression and repression through the years in our own country.”

An African-American president would be “a symbol of empowerment” for those who have been disenfranchised around the world, Kerry said, “an important lesson for America to show Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, other places in the world where disenfranchised people don’t get anything.”
