Making Yankee Fans Proud!

Happy Birthday, Larry Fine!
Today would have been the 107th birthday to one of the alltime great movie funnymen, Larry Fine (Louis Feinberg) of The Three Stooges.

Thanks for all the laughter, Larry! You shall live forever in the hearts of your fans!
What’s wrong with this video?
Any guesses why the Rochester, NY tv station that broadcast this news report is in hot water?
My favorite line comes at the 1:56 mark, “You know, we’ve been looking forward to this day.”
You know…
Well, Democrats set the standard for, uhhh, ahhhh, ‘articulate’ very low by being so impressed with, uhhh, ahhh, Barry Obama. But, we knew they never had much in the way of good taste or wise judgment! So along comes NY’s Affirmative Action case, Caroline Kennedy, as the likely next senator for The Empire State.

I will say this – Caroline ‘Skeletor’ Kennedy is clearly a good & fitting representative for the NY Woman. A self important, slow witted dim bulb who is in over her head. That pretty much describes almost every NY Woman I have ever worked with (and most of the men, too). Caroline & NY – perfect together!
Kudos to Gateway Pundit for calling attention to this interview, and a hat tip to Cuffy Meigs over at Perfunction for having the patience to count the ‘you knows.’ For those wondering, visit Cuffy’s post and along with Caroline’s maddering verbal habit!
25 Years Ago, Today!

The Iron Sheik defeats Bob Backlund for the WWF World Championship at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, ending Backlund’s nearly six-year run at the top and in many ways, ending an era in the WWF.
The next month, Hulk Hogan would win the WWF Championship and usher in the new era of Rock ‘n Wrestling.
Evidently, the Colt 45 flows freely in the streets of Harlem, NY
Howard Stern took to the streets to see just what the voters in New York City had to think. He found numerous Obama supporters uptown in Harlem, who evidently had no idea what they were talking about. To be fair, he found one McCain supporter who was comparably clueless, too!
My personal favorite interview is the Harlem woman who insists that Obama had more facts & information and spoke well (not in so many words), but then proceeds to misstate several of Obama’s positions with conviction!

Help a lady out!
Looks like one of the ladies working at the recently busted S&M club Rapture NYC is in a bind and is starting a legal defense fund to help cover the legal expense.
I think those Wall Street guys who will benefit from the big Federal bailout should throw some money their way! After all, the ladies helped them out in the past!
My beloved NY Post reports…

DUNGEON DAME SEEKS FUNDS TO FIGHT CHARGESBy JAMIE SCHRAM and TODD VENEZIA
A former dominatrix at the busted Rapture NYC S&M club is cracking the whip – and trying to get supporters to donate to a legal defense fund to help the owner fight prostitution charges, sources said.
A dominatrix who goes by the name of Mistress Ardenne has opened up the fund to help bondage dungeon master Collin Reeve get off – and has even vowed to give part of the proceeds from her own steamy S&M sessions to help support the cause.
“The best thing anyone can do right now is to book a session with me,” she wrote on her blog, announcing the fund. “I will be contributing significantly to the legal defense of those who were arrested.”
She also asked other dominatrixes to donate space for her to perform sessions because Rapture is closed.
The cuffs were slapped on the Manhattan S&M club last week, when Reeve, 35, and bondage babe Gina Noto, 21, were arrested. Reeve was charged with promoting prostitution and Noto was hit with disorderly-conduct charges.
The fund is being organized for Ardenne by the Sexual Freedom Legal Defense and Education Fund.
Valerie White, the head of the group, told The Post yesterday that they were contacted by Ardenne this week and asked to help. She said that performing bondage services is in no way prostitution.
“I think it’s outrageous,” White said. “Assuming their protestations are correct, and they never permitted any sex acts to take place on the premises, then they are not committing the crime they are charged with.”
Members of the bondage community are already rallying to the defense.
“As a friend and teacher to the people at Rapture, I was definitely planning on helping out,” said S&M expert and prominent podcaster Graydancer. “I’ve already encouraged others to do so as well.”
Reeve is free on $30,000 bail. Noto pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was released.
White said that any money that winds up in the fund will go directly to lawyers for Reeve – and will not be handed over to the S&M shop owner.
NY Yankee Favorite Passes Away

Bobby Murcer 1946-2008
Just got word that one of my favorite sports broadcasters, Bobby Murcer, passed away today. The AP reports…
Ex-Yanks star, broadcaster Bobby Murcer dies at 62
NEW YORK (AP) Bobby Murcer succeeded Mickey Mantle, played in pinstripes with Don Mattingly and watched proudly from the broadcast booth when the New York Yankees returned to power.
A cherished link from former Yankees greats to the club’s current stars, Murcer died Saturday due to complications from a malignant brain tumor, the team said. He was 62.
In his final moments, Murcer was surrounded by family at Mercy Hospital in his hometown of Oklahoma City, the Yankees said. A five-time All-Star outfielder, he spent nearly four decades with New York as a player, executive and announcer.
“Bobby Murcer was a born Yankee, a great guy, very well-liked and a true friend of mine,” owner George Steinbrenner said. “I extend my deepest sympathies to his wife Kay, their children and grandchildren. I will really miss the guy.”
Murcer was diagnosed with a brain tumor on Christmas Eve 2006 after having headaches. He had surgery that week in Houston and doctors later discovered the tumor was malignant. Determined to be around his beloved Yankees, Murcer returned to the broadcast booth last year and briefly this season.
The only person to play with Mantle and Mattingly, the popular Murcer hit .277 with 252 home runs and 1,043 RBIs in 17 seasons with the Yankees, San Francisco and the Chicago Cubs. He made the All-Star team in both leagues and won a Gold Glove.
“All of Major League Baseball is saddened today by the passing of Bobby Murcer, particularly on the eve of this historic All-Star game at Yankee Stadium, a place he called home for so many years,” commissioner Bud Selig said. “Bobby was a gentleman, a great ambassador for baseball, and a true leader both on and off the field. He was a man of great heart and compassion.”
Always a fan favorite in New York and known for his folksy manner as a broadcaster, Murcer won three Emmy Awards for live sports coverage. His most dramatic words came during his time as a player on one of the saddest days in Yankees history.
They are passionately against it, but don’t know why
New Yorkers (even the ones who speak English) don’t know much, but they know they are against drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in any way, shape, or form!
They may not know why they feel that way, and they may not know what ANWR stands for anyway, but their passion is strong!
Orson Welles & The Mercury Theater

One of the greatest radio anthology series of the 1930s was The Mercury Theatre on the Air, featuring the talents of the New York drama company founded by Orson Welles and John Houseman.
The Mercury Theatre on the Air featured an impressive array of talent, including Agnes Moorehead, Bernard Herrmann, and George Coulouris. The show is most notable for its notorious War of the Worlds broadcast on October 30, 1938, but the troupe presented many other memorable programs.
And indeed, the premiere episode aired on July 11, 1938, presenting Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula. I’m presenting it here for your enjoyment!
