Obama by way of Dylan II [Notes]

Some info for those who asked

Got more than a couple of emails asking if I knew which Dylan song the Obama video used as inspiration.

Actually, it is inspired by two songs. The melody and lyrics riff from Dylan’s Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again. The imagery borrows from a short film of Subterranean Homesick Blues created to promote the 1965 documentary Dont Look Back by D. A. Pennebaker, and is considered a precursor to the ubiquitous modern music video.

Music video has fallen, huh?

Thought I would post the videos for both songs, so enjoy! I always loved the last card in Subterranean Homesick Blues, in particular, as well as Mr. Dylan walking off, so keep your eyes peeled and stay with it until the very end!

      Thelma,

      I love that last card!

And never forget, “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” Wisdom!

    Wisdom indeed.

    A six-song encore! Very generous.

      Thelma,

It was a great concert. I went with fellow Dylan admirer, my longtime friend Carl! When you get the chance to see a true icon like Mr. Dylan, you gotta’ go for it!
