The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008) Trailer This looks like it’s going to be horrible Words escape me… Related 7 Comments Thelma on July 13, 2008 at 8:42 pm It may very well be a disaster but I’d still like to see it. How bad can it be? Reply Vinnie Vegas on July 14, 2008 at 9:52 am It can be pretty bad. Reply Vinnie Vegas on July 15, 2008 at 4:42 pm I’ll take the Robert Wise version any day of the week! Michael Rennie & Patricia Neal rule! :-) Reply jaytee on July 30, 2008 at 10:09 am I’ll admit, Keanu is not a good sign. Surprising. too, that the clip does not feature any significant exposure to Klaatu or Gort. Why else would anyone want to see the movie? All things considered, it looks like the standard issue sci-fi thriller. Admittedly, I don’t remember the original too well (though I’m sure it’s about to be re-released on DVD) but I don’t recall being bowled over by the original, either. Reply Vinnie Vegas on July 31, 2008 at 9:03 am The Robert Wise original is a classic and a personal favorite of mine, if a bit heavy handed and preachy at times. For example, the alien is named ‘Carpenter’ and if you’re paying attention, thematically he takes a role very similar to a very famous New Testament carpenter. :-) But at least that film had a genuine sense of craft and handled the issues it raised maturely. No doubt in my mind that the new version won’t be nearly as thoughtful. Reply jaytee on August 1, 2008 at 1:31 pm Hey . . . . “Carpenter” comes to Earth, dies, and then comes back to life, and then goes back to the heavens. Hmmm. I guess it’s time I checked this picture out again! Reply Vinnie Vegas on August 3, 2008 at 8:40 am Yeah, that’s one subtle aspect of the film, huh? Hahaha!
