Bloomberg Ready to Announce Third-Term Bid

Bloomie’s The One!

It must be quite a world view to actually believe that you are the only one to best navigate New York City through tough economic times!

Then again, Bloomie probably doesn’t actually believe it, and he is just making the best case he can to keep himself in power and feed his ego.

This guy must have a whopper of a Little Man Complex. The loathsome New York Times reports…

Bloomberg Ready to Announce Third-Term Bid
By MICHAEL BARBARO and DAVID W. CHEN

After months of speculation about his political future, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg plans to announce on Thursday morning that he will seek a third term as mayor, according to three people who have been told of his plans.

The extraordinary move promises to upend New York City’s political world.

Right now, Mr. Bloomberg is barred by law from seeking re-election. But he will propose trying to revise the city’s 15-year-old term limits law, which would otherwise force him and dozens of other elected leaders out of office in 2009, the three people said.

In his announcement, Mr. Bloomberg, a former Wall Street trader and founder of a billion-dollar financial data firm, is expected to argue that the financial crisis unfolding in New York City demands his steady hand and proven business acumen.

The move represents an about-face for Mr. Bloomberg, who has repeatedly said he supports term limits and once called an effort to revise the law “disgusting.” He will apparently try to do so through legislation in the City Council, rather than the ballot box.

Mr. Bloomberg’s gambit carries significant political risk. The city’s term limits law was passed twice by voters, in 1993 and 1996, and several polls show widespread popular support for keeping it in place. Under the plan Mr. Bloomberg has outlined to associates, those voters will have no say in the matter, raising the possibility of a backlash.

Mr. Bloomberg, 66, who in public statements in recent weeks has become equivocal about term limits, has discussed in detail with his friends and advisers the pros and cons of changing the law and running again. “This has been thoroughly thought out by the mayor,” said a person who has advised the mayor in the past.

The New York Mets choke to end their final game at Shea Stadium

metsfinalboxscore Oops, they did it again!

new_york_mets_logo Oops, they did it again!

Well, you can set your watch by the fact that the NY Mets simply can not finish what they start, and when push comes to shove they will fail.  They did it in 2007, and they did it earlier today, when they blew a game against the Marlins, and when the Milwaukee Brewers won their game against the NL Central Division Champion Cubs, 3-1.

That means the Brewers are the NL Wild Card, and the NY Mets the perrenial losers that they are!

“I’ve got a bracelet too, from….uh, uh….”

Bloged in News, Politics, Video by Vinnie Vegas Sunday September 28, 2008

Obama wins the Sissy Contest

It’s hard to imagine one adult would ever frame a debate retort by starting with “I’ve got a bracelet, too,” but it happened at the first Presidential debate this past Friday.

“Uh uh Jim, deh uh let me just make a point.  I’ve got a bracelet, too.  From [trying to read] Sargent uhhhhh…….. uh.  From the mother of, uh [reading] Sargent…”

Yep, the Golden Child himself actually punctuated a point by noting that he had a shiny new bracelet given to him by a Gold Star Mother, to match the one given to McCain a while back.  The only problem is that we were given a glimpse into how much it actually meant to Barry - he forgot the name on it and had to fumble to check the name.

That’s what happens when you use a gift from a gold Star Mother as a political prop, Barry.  We know it wasn’t meaningful to you.  Your charade failed in the eyes of anyone with clarity.

Such an exchange is more fitting in a schoolyard, where two young girls discuss the relative beauty and strength of each of their toy bracelets.  Of course, I wrote that it is hard to imagine any adult raising such a point, and the evidence is coming in that Barry Obama just isn’t an adult.

That being said, today we learn that the parents of the fallen soldier are a bit upset at what they characterize as Obama’s misuse of the bracelet and the Gold Star Mom’s gesture.

Newsbusters reports…

Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son’s name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.

Radio host Glenn Moberg of the show “Route 51″ asked Mr. Jopek, a man who believes in the efforts in Iraq and is not in favor of Obama’s positions on the war, what he and his ex-wife think of Obama continually using their son’s name on the campaign trail.

Jopek began by saying that his ex-wife was taken aback, even upset, that Obama has made the death of her son a campaign issue. Jopek says his wife gave Obama the bracelet because “she just wanted Mr. Obama to know Ryan’s name.” Jopek went on to say that “she wasn’t looking to turn it into a big media event” and “just wanted it to be something between Barack Obama and herself.” Apparently, they were all shocked it became such a big deal.

But, he also said that his ex-wife has refused further interviews on the matter and that she wanted Obama to stop wearing the reminder of her son’s sacrifice that he keeps turning into a campaign soundbyte. This begins at about 10 minutes into the radio program. (Download radio show HERE)

TRANSCRIPT

Brian Jopek: Because of some of the negative feedback she’s gotten on the Internet, you know Internet blogs, you know people accusing her of… or accusing Obama of trying to get votes doing it… and that sort of thing.

Radio Host Moberg: Yeah

Jopek: She has turned down any subsequent interviews with the media because she just didn’t want it to get turned into something that it wasn’t. She had told me in an email that she had asked, actually asked Mr. Obama to not wear the bracelet any more at any of his public appearances. Which I don’t think he’s…

Moberg: It has been a while since he’s brought it up.

Jopek: Right. But, the other night I was watching the news and he was on, uh, speaking somewhere and he was still wearing it on his right wrist. I could see it on his right wrist. So, that’s his own choice. I mean that’s something Barack Obama, that’s a choice that he continues to wear it despite Tracy asking him not to… Because she is a Barack Obama supporter and she didn’t want to do anything to sabotage his campaign, so, if he’s still wearing the bracelet then, uh, that of course is entirely up to him.

Moberg: Maybe there’s a difference between wearing it and making a point to bring it up in your speeches?

Well, this family has some problems.

Why give Obama the bracelet in the first place?  Can anyone be so dimwitted as to think that Obama wouldn’t expliot such a gesture for political gain?   Evidently, these fine folks were that dimwitted.

Also the Jopek’s are split up, and who’s to say if Mr. Jopek’s account of his ex-wife’s opinion on the matter is even accurate?   Word is that Mrs. Jopek want’s Obama to win so bad, she doesn’t want to make an issue out of Obama’s exploitation and defying her wishes.  If true, it just demonstrates that Mrs. Jopek is indeed a loathsome creature, willing to compromise her integrity (if she even has any integrity) and see her dead son’s name exploited against her wishes just so that her preferred candidate can avoid the bad press.

If Mrs Jopek doesn’t mind having Obama expolit her dead son’s name, then she is still a loathsome creature, since her motivating factor here is an Obama victory, and she is all to quick to throw her dead son under a bus to help on a political campaign.

Mrs. Jopek, you’re either a lowlife or a dumbass.  Take your pick.  At least your son has the sweet release of death and is as far away from you as possible.

Dungeon Dame Seeks Funds to Fight Charges

Bloged in News by Vinnie Vegas Thursday September 25, 2008

Help a lady out!

Looks like one of the ladies working at the recently busted S&M club Rapture NYC is in a bind and is starting a legal defense fund to help cover the legal expense.

I think those Wall Street guys who will benefit from the big Federal bailout should throw some money their way!  After all, the ladies helped them out in the past!

My beloved NY Post reports…

DUNGEON DAME SEEKS FUNDS TO FIGHT CHARGES

By JAMIE SCHRAM and TODD VENEZIA

dominatrix Dungeon Dame Seeks Funds to Fight ChargesA former dominatrix at the busted Rapture NYC S&M club is cracking the whip - and trying to get supporters to donate to a legal defense fund to help the owner fight prostitution charges, sources said.

A dominatrix who goes by the name of Mistress Ardenne has opened up the fund to help bondage dungeon master Collin Reeve get off - and has even vowed to give part of the proceeds from her own steamy S&M sessions to help support the cause.

“The best thing anyone can do right now is to book a session with me,” she wrote on her blog, announcing the fund. “I will be contributing significantly to the legal defense of those who were arrested.”

She also asked other dominatrixes to donate space for her to perform sessions because Rapture is closed.

The cuffs were slapped on the Manhattan S&M club last week, when Reeve, 35, and bondage babe Gina Noto, 21, were arrested. Reeve was charged with promoting prostitution and Noto was hit with disorderly-conduct charges.

The fund is being organized for Ardenne by the Sexual Freedom Legal Defense and Education Fund.

Valerie White, the head of the group, told The Post yesterday that they were contacted by Ardenne this week and asked to help. She said that performing bondage services is in no way prostitution.

“I think it’s outrageous,” White said. “Assuming their protestations are correct, and they never permitted any sex acts to take place on the premises, then they are not committing the crime they are charged with.”

Members of the bondage community are already rallying to the defense.

“As a friend and teacher to the people at Rapture, I was definitely planning on helping out,” said S&M expert and prominent podcaster Graydancer. “I’ve already encouraged others to do so as well.”

Reeve is free on $30,000 bail. Noto pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was released.

White said that any money that winds up in the fund will go directly to lawyers for Reeve - and will not be handed over to the S&M shop owner.

Mysterious New ‘Dark Flow’ Discovered in Space

Bloged in News, Video by Vinnie Vegas Tuesday September 23, 2008

The year is 2259, the name of the place is Babylon 5!

Yahoo News reports…

Mysterious New ‘Dark Flow’ Discovered in Space

As if the mysteries of dark matter and dark energy weren’t vexing enough, another ba

ffling cosmic puzzle has been discovered.

Patches of matter in the universe seem to be moving at very high speeds and in a uniform direction that can’t be explained by any of the known gravitational forces in the observable universe. Astronomers are calling the phenomenon “dark flow.”

The stuff that’s pulling this matter must be outside the observable universe, researchers conclude.

When scientists talk about the observable universe, they don’t just mean as far out as the eye, or even the most powerful telescope, can see. In fact there’s a fundamental limit to how much of the universe we could ever observe, no matter how advanced our visual instruments. The universe is thought to have formed about 13.7 billion years ago. So even if light started travelling toward us immediately after the Big Bang, the farthest it could ever get is 13.7 billion light-years in distance. There may be parts of the universe that are farther away (we can’t know how big the whole universe is), but we can’t see farther than light could travel over the entire age of the universe.

Mysterious motions

Scientists discovered the flow by studying some of the largest structures in the cosmos: giant clusters of galaxies. These clusters are conglomerations of about a thousand galaxies, as well as very hot gas which emits X-rays. By observing the interaction of the X-rays with the cosmic microwave background (CMB), which is leftover radiation from the Big Bang, scientists can study the movement of clusters.

The X-rays scatter photons in the CMB, shifting its temperature in an effect known as the kinematic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) effect. This effect had not been observed as a result of galaxy clusters before, but a team of researchers led by Alexander Kashlinsky, an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., found it when they studied a huge catalogue of 700 clusters, reaching out up to 6 billion light-years, or half the universe away. They compared this catalogue to the map of the CMB taken by NASA’s Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) satellite.

They discovered that the clusters were moving nearly 2 million mph (3.2 million kph) toward a region in the sky between the constellations of Centaurus and Vela. This motion is different from the outward expansion of the universe (which is accelerated by the force called dark energy).

“We found a very significant velocity, and furthermore, this velocity does not decrease with distance, as far as we can measure,” Kashlinsky told SPACE.com. “The matter in the observable universe just cannot produce the flow we measure.”
