You asked the question, now you’re going to get an answer, mister!
One of the great speeches in entertainment history is this brief one by Joe Friday, in the 1954 theatrical film Dragnet. Mr. Webb delivers it with passion and sincerity. The fact is, they just don’t make them like this anymore!

Wow! I guess we and law enforcement and lucked out, but Friday would’ve made one tough monkey of an accountant!

Golly, my wages were half to a tad more than SGT Joe Friday in our same work era and was I ever way underpaid for my work etchics that was not in the protecting citizens genre! SGT Friday loved being a detective, he donated almost all of his time….that’s why; “In Webb We (Can) Trust.”
P.S. To SGT Friday; I donated a huge amount of extra work hours and I’m a far better person for having done so because I loved my work too. Wages were not the ultimate reason for enjoying my work. In my opinion those type of ethical (or call it crazy if you like) work days are truly in the past for the most part; we had no such thing as ‘comp’ time.
