Everything but the kitchen sink?
Just got word that actor Ty Burrell will portray Doc Samson in the upcoming ‘Incredible Hulk’ film. The Mail Tribune up in the pacific northwest reports…
He managed to get time away from the show recently for shooting on Louis Leterrier’s upcoming movie “The Incredible Hulk,” with Edward Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth. Burrell plays Doc Sampson. The picture is due for release in June.
I’m starting to think the production is being dominated by fanboys who want to shoehorn as much of the Hulk mythos as they can into a 2 hour film.

I just don’t see it, sorry.

Overstuffing is a large part of what made Spidey 3 underwhelming to me. No surprise, though. That’s pure Hollywood box office thinking.
Aside from the question of overstuffing itself, though, why would you pick (as far as I recall) a fairly minor character like Doc Samson?

I agree - there’s no need to over-stuff these movies with all this peripheral nonsense. Doc Samson isn’t a top-tier character in the Marvel Universe. His presence in the film is odd - it’s hard to imagine what he will bring to the movie.
The Abomination is a good, physical foe for The Hulk, so I’m all for that. But I’d sooner put The Leader in the film (as the mastermind behind the creation of The Abomination, fr example) rather than look for an excuse to finesse Doc Samson into the cast.
Admittedly, it’s entirely possible that Samson has become a prominent character in the last 15-20 years. My frame of reference is unapologetically ‘oldschool,’ as you know.
Hulk 2 is starting to radiate a bad vibe.

I, too, am proudly out of touch with the current comics scene, so I can’t say if Doc is a more prominent, hipper figure now, either. But given these movies penchants for starting at the beginning of the story, more seminal, iconic figures like the Leader or the Rhino make more sense.
Doc Samson is a world famous psychiatrist, though. In today’s mixed-up, vainly self-absorbed world, I guess that makes a genuine superhero on that basis alone!
