No idea what this one is about
The Greatest Comic Covers collection returns with this gripping cover for Batman # 162, featuring ‘The Batman Creature.’

Evidently The Dark Knight has turned into some kind of monster, and has scaled a skyscraper, prompting the US Air Force to dispatch some jet fighters to bring him down. I suppose you really had to have been there!

That’s the epitomy of identity theft!

Yikes! Notice also that he has five fingers, but only three toes. And he looks mad! Actually, you have to wonder why they would dispatch jet fighters to deal with this particular situation. I mean, he’s not 50 feet tall, holding a girl, or anything. Wouldn’t a couple of cops done the trick?

Hmm…do you think that’s Benoit before his tragic death? Sure looks pumped up.

Thelma,
I don’t know what got into Batman here. Strange! Maybe you’re right - it’s roid rage!

jaytee,
I suspect this is one of those comics where we just have to read it to understand. DC printed comics like this for several decades, I understand! In the end, we find out it’s a convoluted trick that makes no sense, yet The Dark Knight thought it was the best way to get the job done!
Sad thing is I’d take this stuff over the hopelessly dark antics of many heroes in the modern era.

Well, Thelma, maybe if those couple of cops were from the Dental Squad, they could have left the fighters home! Then again, ape creature or not, he is still Batman. Whoever comes after him’s gonna need serious backup!
And VV, I was only half serious. With great covers like that, who needs explanations? As you say, at least the answer will be light and entertaining, and not some dark revelation, like his secret love for Robin bringing out the beast in him!!
