Lois Lane’s Strangest Adventure Ever!

Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane # 106 presents one of the strangest adventures ever for the star reporter!

Lois Lane # 106

After going to the Metropolis neighborhood ‘Little Africa’ to do a story, she grows frustrated by the cool reception from the locals. She encounters a militant ‘Black Power’ character straight out of 1970 and becomes unnerved by his comments disparaging “Whitey” as the “enemy.” (p. 4)

She somehow concocts a plan to transform herself as a black woman to get her story. I won’t spoil the ending, but I will admit this is one of my favorite comic book covers of all time! Mindblowing!

But can she ghetto-speak? And does she know 50 words of English? Like My Cousin Vinny, she must be asking herself: “Do I blend?”

Well, I sure I speak for plenty of your readers, VV, when I say that I think we’ve all been “curious black” at one time or another! Now — do you have any issues where the Rose and the Thorn become Asian?

ThelmaSFL, she blended in very well, but only after experiencing indignities like taxi cabs not stopping for her. I may scan this whole short story and make it aailable - it’s one of the jewels of my collection!

Jaytee, LL # 106 stands as an iconic issue! As for the Rose & Thorn issue you mention, I think Julius Schwartz OKed it but the Comics Code Authority people, for reasons never fully articulated, shut that story down quickly!
